The Reality Behind The Red Carpet

Now that awards season is over, celebrity fashion expert and author of Will Work For ShoesThe Business Behind Red Carpet Product Placement Susan J. Ashbrook is spilling the style scoop on what it really takes to get the stars ready for the Oscars.

According to Ashbrook, the search for the perfect Oscar gown begins as early as January. "Stars and stylists typically look at hundreds of dresses," she tells In Touch. Then it's on to the fittings. "On average, a nominee or presenter might have 10 to 20 fittings," says Ashbrook. "These will include testing the dress with a variety of accessories, makeup, hair and even lighting to make sure nothing is see-through."

Clearly Jennifer Lopez — whose Zuhair Murad gown gave the illusion of being sheer — would have benefited from a more thorough fitting. And while the stars wow on the red carpet, Ashbrook explains much like Cinderella, the actresses don't get to keep their glamourous ensembles. "Some designers need the gowns back for trunk shows and sales, while the jewelry gets picked up as early as after the after-parties," she explains. Well, it still sounds like a dream come true to us!
